Welcome to another edition of Tabletop Tuesday - Your weekly exploration into games of dice, cards, luck and more of the Tabletop world.
This week's game...the game of train tracks and tire tracks that is Rivers, Roads & Rails.
Players: 2-10
Time: 30-90 minutes
Genre: Casual Family Game
Rivers, Roads & Rails is a simple, but charming matching game in which players take tiles with these three types of paths, and connects the tiles to create grid-like map. Many of the tiles will have unique landmarks which alter the flow of which types of paths begin and end, with two tiles in particular that allow for branching paths in multiple directions. Similar to that of dominoes, players take turns drawing and placing tiles (if able), until there are no more tiles to be drawn / placed. The first player to run out of tiles or have the fewest tiles come the end of the game is the winner.
If you want to play competitively, you can try to identify what tiles your opponents have / lack, and create paths accordingly that hinder their progress. This game is unique though that it can be just as much fun to be played cooperatively, working together just to create one large, beautiful map. I highly recommend finding the Ravensburger version shown above as the artwork in this version is simply timeless. I recommend this game for those looking for a relaxing and carefree gaming experience.
