Throwback Thursday - Rocket League
Welcome to another Throwback Thursday, our weekly look into my Top 100 games and general nostalgia. Making the epic save this week: The game of rocket-propelled cars and giant soccer balls that is Rocket League.
Released worldwide on July 7th, 2015, Rocket League took the world by storm with a simple concept combined with exceptional execution: "Soccer, but with rocket-powered cars." It may appear silly and trivial at a glance, but there is deceptively loads of fun and thrills to be enjoyed in this absurd combination. The simplicity of this concept offers an immediate degree of understanding and accessibility to players of all skill levels, while the techniques and mechanics of these rocket-powered cars allow for growth and mastery for players to strive in achieving. And the finely detailed presentation, from the blades of grass to the slow-motion explosions of every goal, make witnessing every miraculous save and goal a marvel to behold.

Throwback Thursday - Advance Wars (series)
Welcome to another Throwback Thursday, our weekly look into my Top 100 games and general nostalgia. However, today marks a momentous milestone as we now enter what is my Top 50 games. So prepare yourself for even greater gaming goodness and powerful nostalgia, for aiming their trajectory this week: The game series with many ranks of tanks and more that is Advance Wars.
The Advance Wars games actually began as Famicom Wars, debuting on the NES in Japan on August 12th, 1988. It wasn't until the series's 7th entry that Advance Wars finally made its international appearance in the US on the GameBoy Advance on September 21st, 2001. Developed by Intelligent Systems, the same studio that publishes the very similar Fire Emblem series, Advance Wars is a unique tactical war game in which players take control of a commander and direct orders for various infantry to move, battle, and capture enemy zones. Players must pay careful attention to many elements such as terrain, weather, weapon advantages, resource gain, vehicle fuel, and more less they lose the pull of a battle. Fortunately, the game expertly teaches these mechanics at a nice and steady pace mission to mission. And with the bright and cheery artwork, and oh so catchy chip tunes, it makes what would seem to be a serious game of intense chess into a fun and whimsical game of war.

Celebrating One Year of Blogging!
It's hard to believe, but Hughes3D - A Gaming Blog turns one year old today! In this past year, there have been...
- 53 Tabletop Tuesday posts
- 50 Throwback Thursday posts
- 51 Weekly Comics
- 12 Game Reviews
- 1 Tips & Tricks
- 9 Top Five lists
- 2 By Design discussions
- 3 Impression posts
- All for a Grand Total of 188 posts
It's been a joy and pleasure writing and discussing video games, board games, and more this past year, and I hope to continue to do so for some time to come still. We still have our Top 50 games to discuss in continuing Throwback Thursdays, and many game reviews and design discussions to be posted soon (once life allows some more time to write these up). I'd also like to offer a look into personal projects of art, animation, and game design in the year to come, so stay tuned for that as well. With that said, if you have any suggestions for topics you'd like to see or anything mentioned above you'd like to see more of, be sure to let me know in the comments! Thanks, and as always, happy gaming!
